How it works

London Topo helps you practise route drawing on map images. You choose a map, draw the route step by step, then compare your route with the model answer.

1. Choose a map

Use the map list, search box, or category filter to find a practice map.

  • Free maps can be opened straight away.
  • Locked maps need Pro access.
  • Random Practice picks a map for you.

2. Set the map view

Before drawing, make the map easy to see.

  • Use Fit View to show the full map.
  • Use Zoom + or Zoom - if needed.
  • Turn Pan ON if you need to move around the map.

3. Draw your route

Click Draw Route, then start drawing from the starting point.

  • First click: your starting point.
  • Keep clicking along the roads.
  • Last click: your end point.

Drawing the route in plain English

1

Click “Draw Route”

This tells the site you are ready to start drawing. After this, every click on the map becomes part of your route.

2

Click the starting point

Click exactly where the route should begin. This is your first route point.

3

Follow the road with small clicks

Do not just click the start and finish. Click along the roads, junction by junction, so the line follows the route properly.

4

Click corners and junctions

When the route turns left or right, click at the corner or junction first. This keeps your route neat and accurate.

5

Finish at the end point

Your final click should be where the route ends. Then you can submit or compare your answer, depending on the mode.

Practice Mode

Practice Mode is for learning. You can take your time and correct mistakes.

  • Use Undo if you click the wrong place.
  • Use Clear if you want to start again.
  • Use the model answer to learn the best route.
  • Your history is saved locally on your device.

Exam Mode

Exam Mode is closer to a real test. It is timed and gives fewer helping tools.

  • The timer starts when you begin.
  • Hints and answer routes are hidden.
  • Undo may be disabled.
  • The route can auto-submit when time runs out.

How scoring works

Your score checks how close your route is to the model route.

  • Shape: Does your line follow the same roads?
  • Distance: Is your route much longer than the model answer?
  • Accuracy: Did you avoid unnecessary detours?
Tip: Many candidates lose marks because they rush. Slow down, click each junction clearly, and keep the route tidy.

Note: This is a training score only. It is not official TfL marking.
